It is celebration time again in Akoka!
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has retained its position as Nigeria's highest-ranked university in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027.
In the ranking released on September 30, 2026, UNILAG emerged joint top in Nigeria alongside the University of Ibadan and Covenant University. Globally, the three universities were placed in the 801–1000 band out of 2,297 universities ranked worldwide across 118 countries and territories.
The 2027 ranking assessed universities using 17 performance indicators grouped into five key areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry Engagement, and International Outlook.
Notably, UNILAG recorded the highest Research Quality score among Nigerian universities with 67.8 points, underscoring its sustained commitment to excellence in teaching, research, innovation and global impact.
